“結界とは、「界を結ぶ」と書きます。
界とはBorderであり、
つまり結界とは「境界をつくる」という意味の言葉です。
結界石は、その名の通り概念的な境界を作るための道具です。

しかし、結界石は永遠に形をとどめることはありません。
諸行無常。
結ばれた麻紐は必ずいつか解けて、
結界石はただの石にもどります。

境界とは人間が作った概念です。
概念は概念であり、実際は存在しません。
私は、境界とは幻想だということを思い出して欲しいと思い、
この石に紐を結んでいます。

この石を大切にひとに贈るとき、
結界石は「あなたとわたしとの境界は存在しない」
という手紙となることでしょう。

“Kekkai” means “to tie a boundary.”
The word kai refers to a border—
a line the mind draws to separate one thing from another.
A kekkai stone is an object that gives form to that idea.

Yet it never remains fixed. 
The hemp cord will one day loosen,
and the stone will return to being nothing more than a stone.
All things are impermanent.

Boundaries are concepts we create—
and concepts have no true substance.
I tie a cord around this stone to remind us
that the lines we draw are only illusions.

When you offer this stone to someone with care,
it becomes a silent message:
“There is no boundary between you and me.”

然而結界石不會永遠保持其形。
繩會松，石會返本。
諸行無常，一切終將回到原處。

邊界本是人造的概念；
概念終為概念，真實中並無存在。
我為石系上麻繩，只為提醒人們：
界，不過是心的幻影。

當你將這枚石頭鄭重贈予他人之時，
它便是一封無言的信——
“你與我之間，從來沒有界線。”

結界石は、本来、禅寺や茶室の庭に置き、その先への立ち入りを禁じたり、立ち止まって周囲の景色を見渡すことを促したりするためのものです。この結界石は、京都の禅僧・品部東晟が淡路島の石を自ら集め、国産の精麻で縄を作り、祈りを込めて法具として結んだものです。庭に置くだけでなく、日々の暮らしの中で立ち止まり、周囲を見渡して自分を省みるきっかけとしてもそばに置かれます。

今回、品部禅僧が特別に手作りした小サイズの結界石をご用意くださいました。古都・京都の「結界石」を中国の茶席に取り入れることは、新たな試みです。短いひとときの停頓、禅的な静寂に触れることで、慌ただしい現代の時間の流れの中に、そっと心の平穏を取り戻すことができるでしょう。

The primary purpose of a kekkaishi (boundary stone) is to be placed in the gardens of Zen temples or tea rooms, either to mark a restricted area or to invite visitors to pause and take in the surrounding scenery. This particular stone was created by Kyoto Zen monk Tōsei Shinobu, who personally collected stones from Awaji Island and tied them with ropes made from domestically sourced hemp, imbuing it with prayer. Beyond its role in a garden, it can also serve in everyday life as a gentle reminder to stop, observe, and reflect on oneself.

结界石最初的用途是放置在禅寺和茶室的庭园中，禁止人们进入该处以外的地方，或是鼓励人们在该处驻足以环顾周围的景色。來自京都的禅僧品部東晟亲自收集石头、编制精麻绳、注入祈愿，然后结绳。它们可以放置在庭院里，也可摆在身边，提醒自己在日复一日的生活当中停下脚步、环顾四周以及反省自我。这些来自古老京都的「结界石」，在快节奏的现代生活中，希望可以找到内心的平静。

品部東晟
TOSEI SHINABE

京都最古の禅寺にて八年間の修行を経て、
坐禅を実践し、その技を日々人々に伝えている。
自ら石を集め、精麻を縄にし、祈り、結ぶ「坐」の結界石を制作。

After eight years of ascetic training at Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple, he continues to practice and teach Zen meditation, while handcrafting kekkai stones—gathering stones, braiding hemp, and tying prayers.
